Obama’s Healthcare Nightmare Deepens

15 July 2009 | By dillon-kgmi in National Politics

I was shocked to hear that Congress may be considering to label healthcare a ‘right’ here in this country. What isn’t a ‘right’ anymore? No joke, they want to call it a right — here’s the story:

There’s a term that hasn’t been used too much as of late, but I’m bringing it back: CRADLE TO GRAVE. That’s where we’re headed, and it scares me. If you aren’t scared, you should be — look at this chart, and your head will spin:

If you didn’t just click on that link, go back and do it. If you haven’t looked at it, you’re deliberately keeping your head in the sand.

OK, maybe I’m over the top, but when this is the ridiculous level of bureaucratic complexity we need to simply ensure we aren’t DENYING Americans a ‘right’, WE’VE GOT A PROBLEM… not to mention a multi-trillion-dollar price tag.

  1. Dillon,
You seem to be following your emotions as opposed to the facts. Here’s another chart that shows our health care isn’t so hot:

You reference a chart put out by: Joint Economic Committee, Republican Staff, Congressman Kevin Brady, Ranking House Republican Member
A chart which is of course partisan, purposely put together to bring about confusion and fear.

Here is a chart that show our current system:
    http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/blogs/the_treatment/archive/2009/07/15/rube-goldberg-already-lives-here.aspx

Its just as confusing and crazy but doesn’t have as “hard” of a feel about it with the way its done.
Both charts are set up to insight an emotion. Both could most likely be done without so much confusion.

I was bummed to hear you yesterday spouting Republican talking points without doing a little research yourself. I know KGMI is a far right radio station and its easy to just go with the flow and recite what your current line up spouts day in day out. You live in this community and use our airwaves to inform us, you should take that responsibility seriously. You should at least be fair and do a little research and know who it is you’re reciting and take that into account.

  2. Rob, it’s too bad you didn’t call in during the show, it would’ve been great to hear from you. While I’m no expert on health care (which is why I was hoping folks like you would call in to bring more to the discussion), I have some background on the issue, I’ve done research, I’ve heard a huge variety of arguments… I’ve even been enrolled, at one point, in Canada’s single-payer system, believe it or not. I’m not advocating for our current system, as I realize it has extreme complexity, as well. I’m arguing against the complexity in the first place, and as I said, I’m throwing out everything I thought about the healthcare system, to try to re-think the underlying philosophy. My view does not come from Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Lars Larsen, or Mark Levin… it’s simply my own effort to step back, and look at the basic value system governing all this complexity that we rely on to keep us healthy. I apologize if you felt ill-informed, but my intent was to simply challenge conventional thought, not to bombard you with facts that serve simply to further confuse the issue, on either side of the debate.

Thanks for listening, and I’m serious, I’d love to have you call in. I was genuinely bummed when no one called to disagree, because that’s when I feel the conversation really gets good.

  3. I’m having some time seeing the option to see Doctors about your health as a Privilege lol, but in a Way that Works, the Privileged have had more Access and… Capability to receive health care.

It’s a tough issue for me to stand outside of as I’m still entangled in deep medical bills presently for something I Did Not do to myself and is not a consequence of poor choices. Yet,.. All I seem to hear from the Right about our Rights is we should Have none, it’s the victim’s fault, they’re deliberately being a burden so shut up and die quietly. :|

I Agree we shouldn’t need this level of Complexity to keep from Denying people health care, maybe a smidge less denying of health care instead?

  4. To answer your first question, getting a plastic garbage sack at the grocery store apparently is not a right. Not being an expert on medical care myself, I have very little valid opinion about the details of the plan. My biggest concern is that all the elected officials have the same medical plan they foist onto the rest of us, are not exempt from paying into social security on their pay for elected office, and have a retirement benefit plan more in line with the rest of the country such as SSI plus a 401 they contribute to. Giving the people the scraps while they continue to have their own superior plans is too close to what we see in dictatorships…you know…like countries with czars. We’re working on our own ruling class here, and it is quite scary.
